Elephants and Me

Dec 2020

Since childhood I have been a lover of Elephants. These majestic and intelligent mamals are just too special to me. I would read stories about their bravery and loyalty to their mahouts.

Accordingy to Wikipeida sources Since 1986, the Asian elephant has been listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List as the wild population has declined by at least 50% since the 1930s to 1940s, i.e. three elephant generations. The Asian elephant is threatened by habitat lossdegradation and fragmentation.  In India there are approx 27,785 elephants. Worldwide numbers at 40,000-50,000 wild elephants left the WWF considers it endangered. Read more here.  Elephants are the pillars of African eco-system. Without them some of the grasslands in Africa would eventually become thickets or forests because elephants weed out trees and shrubs.

Despite a ban on the international trade in ivory, African elephants are still being poached in large numbers often leaving these poor animals to suffer and ultimately die.  We have decided to donate to the National Geographic Society Fund to help fight poaching. We do not believe in Animal cruelty at La Fleur by Livvy and this act is inhumane. Do not buy tusks or jewelry or gifts made out of ivory.

I urge you to also help support this great cause and you can donate directly to National Geographic Society  here
