We love using the essence of fragrant flowers such as roses, jasmines, frangipani (plumeria), lavender, champaka, lilies, geraniums, ylang ylang, tuberose, lilacs and white lotus. You can find all of these in our perfumes.   May the list grow on as we continue to create beautiful perfumes.  However, we will talk about roses for a second in this blog.  Who doesn't like roses, right?

 

Fleur de L’ Amour –  features beautiful rose notes in its composition;  The Rose is the queen dare we say of all flowers. There is no other flower that has been used since time immemorial as the Rose in perfumery. With over 150 species of roses and thousands of hybrids, roses can be found in nearly every color and shape even a black rose.

I recently got to discover a beautiful rose garden by accident in Palisade, Colorado. Varaison Vineyards’ heritage Rose Garden is a captivating experience.  With nearly 1,500 David Austin Roses arranged in a formal walking garden designed by renowned Rosarian Michael Marriott.  It was walk to remember and I feel very fortunate that this beautiful garden is just a stone’s throw away.  BTW I am a huge fan of David Austin Roses.

Popular roses used in perfumery are Turkish Rose, Damask Rose, Centifolia or Rosa Centifolia  also called the cabbage rose because of the many petals (the 'hundred-leafed rose'), which is grown around Grasse in the south of France, and generally considered to produce the highest quality rose absolute. The notes range from sweet to fruity, to spicy and musky.  Rose oil is among the most expensive oils and made up of 300 active ingredients. Not all of them have been identified yet.

When rose grower and breeder, Sebastien Maurice Joseph Rousseau in France approached me, I was estatic that that a rose breeder from France would want to name a rose after a natural perfumer. Its an incredible honor, one that I never ever imagined. There is now "as I say proudly" an Olivia Larson Rose.  We are collaborating with Sebastien to use the oils in our future perfumes.

​

The Olivia Larson Rose is a hybrid rose in the centifolia family and has between 150 to 120 beautiful pink petals, whilst still in its infancy it continues to develop and grow. It has citrus notes of lime and orange.
